Fight for Internet speech ratchets up

Open forum site fighting for right to political discourse

By Bob Unruh

The popularity of new homes of only 500 square feet, 500-million-year-old bacteria and Barack Obama telling those with successful businesses, “You didn’t build that.”

Those are just a few among the topics of discussion now at Free Dominion, a Canadian version of Free Republic in the U.S. where Internet users talk about, well, just about everything.

Now website organizers are trying to raise a few thousand dollars to pursue arguments in a court case that would solidify the foundation for Internet free speech in Canada, a case they won at the trial court level but saw reversed on appeal because the judges wanted to address “a number of public interest and legal issues.”

The operators of the Free Dominion website are asking supporters for help in raising an estimated $14,000 they need right away for the fight.

Go here to read the rest!

Thanks so much to Joseph Farah and Bob Unruh! You guys rock! :hurray:

wow, you are hitting in the major leagues with WND. Other than a breitbart (sites) mention or a major talk radio plug, I can't think of much better press to help the cause.

congrats!

Did someone here post this comment at WND:

The_Gentile

I noticed this article didn't mention serial lawfare artist "Lucy`` who is a former employee of the Canadian Human Rights Commission and a JAG officer for the Department of National Defence. We call him Lucy because anytime he finds his name in print or someone he disagrees with links to his website, he sues them.

Here`s Ezra Levant talking about that very man: http://youtu.be/yT946TGtvjo

This is such an eloquent and detailed put-down of Lucy, I love it! Hopefully now another 10,000 people will see it.

You know, this fellow has written an excellent precis of the court victories and good precedents established. I think we should keep track of this article and link to it when we want to get people up to speed.

This story has some legs! Let's hope the trial ends in a bunch of "victory for free speech" articles appearing on these same sites.
"The only freedom which deserves the name is that of pursuing our own good in our own way, so long as we do not attempt to deprive others of theirs, or impede their efforts to obtain it. Each is the proper guardian of his own health, whether bodily, or mental or spiritual. Mankind are greater gainers by suffering each other to live as seems good to themselves, than by compelling each to live as seems good to the rest." ~ John Stuart Mill

I hate to think of the consequences if it doesn't. I cannot believe that people have given up without a fight for their right to free speech. Can't happen.

I find the biggest problem in all of this is the number of people who aren't even aware that there is a fight. Certainly in the west, many of the the encroachments have been incremental and have been justified as benign and "for the greater good". Even when people hear about the odd story here and there, it's far too easy for them to accept the idea that we may need to trade liberty for security so that we can all get along and avoid causing offense to this favoured group or that favoured group.

In the absence of some major resistance, the collectivists will continue on the same path and will eventually win their soft jihad against the west and destroy the concept of the supremacy of the individual that is at the heart of liberal democracies.

We can and must continue to win battles here and there but at some point, people need to be made aware of the war that they seem to be oblivious to.

If they manage to grab control of the internet, the battle is lost because we won't be able to communicate outside of the "official" news sources.
