After moving to Dearborn, Michigan, I bought my first .357 Ruger. After taking a concealed weapons course, I rapidly found that it was just simply a tool that one used to accomplish a task.
In the Detroit area, that task is protect yourself.
The police cannot protect all individuals against all other individuals. Therefore one has the right, and the obligation, to protect one's self.
Deer hunting with a .357 takes a fair amount of skill and practice. Substituting a 14" barrel for a 4" one and chambering a suitable round such as a JHP at 200 grains - the minimum you'd want is 180 grains at 1400 fps.
Backup concealed guns like a .380 or even a .22 semi are probably all the average individual needs.

Would burn too many people that created it.
