Minority Parliaments are always wacky.

Just how many Minority CPC governments do you want us to live through? There is no way the CPC will form a majority government, so with your insane logic we just keep the CPC in a week governing position. Ridiculous.

If the Conservatives fail to abolish this wasteful office in the upcoming budget, perhaps the Freedom Party or Canadian Taxpayers Federation should take up this case and ask why the government is fully funding an office that they have no intention of using.

BTW, thanks for starting this forum.

This was a good thread to have started, and yes, they went for it with the Tax, Cap, and Trade nonesense which Dion was in favor of during the last election.

The federal government released the spending estimates on Monday if I recall correctly, they plan on cranking up spending levels beyond the level of inflation. It would seem to indicate to me anyways, that the only goal of those fiscal "Conservatives" is to balance the budget, which the Sask NDP does all of the time, and which Paul Martin/Chretien Liberals did all of the time.

That is the claim, but there are no numbers backing the claim up ...... considering they are in a surplus situation,

I guess you were wrong...

But with a projected deficit of over $56-billion this year and national debt of over $500-billion, the government of Prime Minister Stephen Harper owes it to taxpayers is cut back on spending as much as possible. If that means angering a lot of dithering municipal and provincial politicians, who were already daydreaming about their ribbon-cutting photo ops for new superhighways and arenas, so be it.

"federal deficit rose to its highest point in history" and "deficit to $55.6 billion"

Can someone explain to me why the "conservatives", and yes, I use the word "conservative" very loosely in this case, deserve my vote?

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation also reacted negatively to the update, urging Ottawa to cut spending in order to balance the budget sooner.
Even by Ottawa's accounting, the government will add $171 billion -- or $10,277 per taxpayer -- to the national debt before the books are back in black, the group calculated.
"A family of four tax-filers will have to pay off almost $41,000 due to this spending binge," said Kevin Gaudet of the anti-tax group.

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) responded today to the federal government’s economic update, calling for a faster plan to eliminate the deficit and for a legislated debt repayment schedule

The CTF is calling on the federal government to:
Balance the budget over two years;
Legislate a debt repayment schedule; and,
Reduce spending in non-insurance EI programs to avoid the EI tax hike planned for January 1st.

Charles all things considered on the worlds financial stage I'd say we got of pretty darn easy with only that amount of deficit. It could have been significantly worse.
