TORONTO - City politicians aren’t shooting blanks when it comes to a Toronto handgun ban.

A Forum Research poll conducted this week and provided exclusively to the Sun shows strong support among Toronto residents for a city handgun ban and a laundry list of other hot topics that have popped up over the last few weeks.

According to the poll of 1,212 residents, Torontonians also like mandatory bike helmets for adults, free parking for vets, and funding for the High Park Zoo and Riverdale Farm.

But nothing blows away the numbers like the handgun ban question.

A stunning 75% of those polled agreed the city should ban handguns while only 18% disagreed with the idea.

“75% (in favour of a handgun ban) this is about as unanimous an opinion as you’re going to get in this city,” Forum Research president Lorne Bozinoff told the Sun Friday............................http://www.torontosun.com/2012/06/30/to ... -supported

I would think that according to their own statistics they would first be banning knives #-o

There's no doubt the Jamaican and muslim youth are lining up as we speak to turn in their illegal and unregistered handguns, suddenly seeing the light and turning a new leaf ready to play baseball and take swimming lessons.

I would venture that 75% of those polled do not own a handgun, so they are not affected by a ban. My guess is that they think a handgun ban will make the city safer and they are wrong. The sad thing is that when people are still injured and killed by people using banned handguns, these twits will not admit they are wrong and repeal the ban. Many people suffer terminal stupidity.

Instead of banning handguns they should be strongly pushing concealed carry for all mentally fit residents. The everyday people that have to live there will take care of the criminal gangs in no time flat.

Collectors and shooters who use gun ranges will have to turn in their handguns. These are the only people legally allowed to own them now except for police etc. When was the last time a gun collector or target shooter shot up the Toronto Eaton Center?

Another knee-jerk emotional reaction by liberals with no basis in reality. :x

The city of Toronto does not have the constitutional authority to ban handguns or to otherwise infringe on a citizen's property rights. A handgun ban ban would have to come under provincial law, and even then would be subject to Charter section 15 (equality before and under the law).

I doubt that Canadians will ever support an armed populace; they've been herded as sheep for far too long.
"The only freedom which deserves the name is that of pursuing our own good in our own way, so long as we do not attempt to deprive others of theirs, or impede their efforts to obtain it. Each is the proper guardian of his own health, whether bodily, or mental or spiritual. Mankind are greater gainers by suffering each other to live as seems good to themselves, than by compelling each to live as seems good to the rest." ~ John Stuart Mill

A better idea would be to ban Toronto's. Is it too late to bargain Toronto away in the peace treaty from the 1812?

I assume Toronto is currently burning to the ground and every police car in town is upside down smashed given the soccer slaughter of the Italians earlier today.

I'd start by banning welfare so they would be at work and not doing nothing so they most likely won't get in trouble.
